Hello again
Today we left Hinton, AB where we had a wonderful visit with Donny's friend, Blair. He spoiled us by cooking the most delicious dinner on Monday night -- baked salmon, flambeed prawns, baked potatoes and steamed broccoli and green beans! Thanks so much for your wonderful hospitality, Blair. Hope you will come to NH so we can return the favor.
We also enjoyed Blair's dogs immensely. Duke is a huge white boxer and Duffy is a tiny little 4 month old Shih tzu and Maltese cross. Duke doesn't know he is big, and Duffy has no idea he is small! They play together like litter mates.
After leaving Hinton, we started down the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Banff. Unfortunately, the sun was not our friend again -- clouds and showers all morning. We stopped at a pull over at Horseshoe Lake right at the beginning of the Icefields Parkway to wait for the weather to clear. I walked around the lake with my camera while Donny took a nap. Finally, our patience was rewarded and the sun came out.
The Icefields Parkway is magnificent - another place that has be to seen to be believed. Huge glacier-covered mountains -- 10,000' - 12,000' -- on every side, and gorgeous rivers, lakes and ponds in every shade of blue and green. We were proud of our little camper; Gallopin' Gertie climbed over Bow Pass, elevation 6785', without any problem at all.
We got gas in Banff and crossed into British Columbia, heading south on Route 93, where we soon came across a pair of whitetail bucks browsing beside the road. (We saw a total of 12 deer today in AB and BC). In Canal Flats, BC, we stopped to view Columbia Lake, which is the source of the mighty Columbia River.
At about 8:45 p.m., we passed through U.S. customs, and shortly afterward, we checked into a small campground in Eureka, Montana -- right in the middle of a thunderstorm!
Not quite sure yet where we will go tomorrow. We are glad to be back in the U.S.!
Don and Cheryl
