August 5 & 6 - Day 31 & 32

Hi Everyone

I only have internet access for a few minutes, so I am just posting a quick "Hello."

Yesterday we left Ft. Nelson and headed for Dawson City. Windy, dusty, hazy and smokey from the forest fires still burning in British Columbia.

We left left BC and passed into Alberta at about 4:30 - also passed into Mountain Standard time zone, so set the clock ahead one hour.

The fields are golden with grains, and the harvest has begun. The canola fields that were so yellow when we came by three weeks ago are now all green and going to seed. There has been a bad drought here for the past three years, and so far this summer it hasn't rained at all. I guess the wheat harvest has suffered from lack of moisture.

We found a campsite in the small town of Spirit River, and Donny's friend, Norm, who is working on a nearby construction site, came to visit for a while.

Today we have explored the Spirit and Peace River valleys a bit, and we are meeting Norm to follow him to his home in Grand Prairie to spend the night.

I will post some photos later.

Cheryl
