August 5, 6 & 7 - Days 31, 32, 33

Hello Again

In the last post, I mentioned that we were traveling from Fort Nelson, BC to Grande Prairie, Alberta. Today we continued south on Route 40 to Grande Cache, and tomorrow we hope to connect with another friend of Donny's in Hinton, Alberta.

Today the smoke cleared a bit and the day dawned bright and sunny in Grande Prairie. As we drove toward Grande Cache, the roadsides were absolutely covered in wildflowers - mostly fireweed, indian paintbrush, and assorted clovers. It was really beautiful. Gradually, clouds moved in, but now it is clear again and quite cold.

This whole region has a huge amount of oil and gas extraction going on. Seems like every half-mile there is a short road with a gas or oil facility at the end of it. We also went past an enormous coal mine and coal-fired power generation plant. The economy seems strong and thriving.

I thought I would post some photos from the past three days. Each one has a caption, so they should be self-explanatory.

Later!

Cheryl & Don
